About

I started this blog as a way to document my process-from application to departure, all the way through my teaching experience.

1 year ago I had absolutely no idea where I would be or what I'd be doing.  Teaching and traveling were pretty much the things I consistently loved to do! I assumed I would be somewhere in the U.S, teaching English Lit in an urban school. Or maybe even slaving away over my first creative non-fiction novel (which I swear I will finish).A friend had offered to set me up with a job in New Zealand working with at risk youth, unfortunately this required that I have at least a full year of overseas teaching experience.

I started thinking about where I wanted to be in 10 years and what I wanted to accomplish. I knew I wanted to start a career, but I also knew I hadn't satisfied my sense of wanderlust! I wanted to see the world! So it began...

I started researching different service opportunities through peace corps and various overseas year long programs, when I decided to check out the TEFL program. After I finished my masters I applied for a TESOL course through the International TEFL academy and began looking into different countries. No matter where I looked, I always came back to Korea.

I had friends, team mates and teachers who had all been there, and each time I asked them why they liked it, their response was the same. Silence. Many of them loved it so much that they had trouble putting the feeling into words.  That became my goal. Write about Korea. About everything in Korea. Write about teaching, the foods, sights, sounds, sports, but most importantly capture in words- the thing about Korea that made everyone else so silent. The thing that was unnamed.

Starting in August I will begin my journey, teaching in Seoul. I hope this blog will help me to capture Korea, to understand it, but also to help others with their process.

Thanks for joining me on my adventure!

진심으로,
